“A perfect relaxing gettaway from the busy city.”
My husband and I just returned from a stay at Driftwood for the second time in 12 months. This is the only cottage we have ever stayed at twice! The lady who runs the place, Gloria, is a sweet heart. The cottages were cozy and relazing, and the view is breathtaking. There isnt a lot to do aroung Advocate Harbour in the Spring, but that was just what we were looking for. A walk on the beach, a roasted hot dog on a beach fire, and a peaceful place to relax and read a book. The lack of tv was just what we needed, and you can see the stars at night so much better out there without all the city lights. We will likely stay there a third time!

“Wonderful Leisure Experience”
We arrived at the cottages, during a power outage on Oct. 11--there were candles hanging on the door of the retreat--wow!! The cottage was clean and tidy with all the amenities. A wood stove was a cozy addition--we used it two nights. The beds were comfortable, with thermostats in both bedrooms. The cupboards were stocked with all the dishes and pots/pans we could have needed. The view of the beach was fantastic, especially watching the lobster boats, during the day, as well as, the night. I recommend this cottage for everyone wanting a peaceful, comfortable time. 22 Oct 2009

“Magical location”
We went to witness the tides of the bay of fundy but found much much more.

Advocate Harbour is charming town smack in the middle of the Bay Fundy coastline. We stayed at a Driftwood Park Retreat property know by everyone in town as the Bayview Cottage. The view was spectacular, with the surf and beach practically under the deck. The whole place smells like wild roses as does most of Nova Scotia. Our rates were so reasonable we went to Halifax for an overnight to see the tall ships. If you go you must buy some live lobster from Lauren in Spencer's Island ( her son is a lobster firsherman), she has a sign near her driveway. She will even loan you a 'lobster pot" if you need one.
Gloria our host provided a cleaver and a hammer, you difinitely should have both for 3# lobsters. A trip to the cemetery offers spectacular views of the coast and the village, also some interesting tombstones of master mariner, some born in the 1700's. We purchased our souvenirs at a gallery in Diligent River between Parrsboro and Advocate, wonderful quality and great value. The Wild Caraway restaurant was and elegant surprise with while linen, candlelight and great wine. They serve fish caught just hours before.

Advocate is a hard place to get to place well worth the effort.

Blueberry Fields

"Saltscapes" - Canada's East Coast magazine has this to say about Driftwood Park Retreat in their January/February , 2003 issue:

A Best-Kept Secret Revealed
"One of my private passions is exploring the secret hiding places along the East Coast. We're rich in Canada's best kept-secrets. My mind takes me back to a happy weekend last fall at a spot near the head of the Bay of Fundy. It goes near the top on the list of best kept secrets.

After settling into our cottage on the beach, dinner and a huge bonfire on the beach with guests from other cottages. Gracious owners, Gloria and Jacques Lemay, made sure that everyone felt comfortable, especially those who had never had the experience of a driftwood bonfire. People from Germany, Vermont, Texas, Manitoba and the Maritimes became instant friends. Conversations flowed as freely as the spirits - we became part of the beach community.

Isn't it nice to hear from strangers that they are glad they came here?

This Parrsboro area is a secret spot that has everything - comfy cottages, spectacular park, and an interesting beach.

The East Coast secret is not a place of hurried activity. It's a community that embraces life's choicest stuff - fresh air, the sounds and smells of the natural world, and dominant scenery.

People are a part of it. As a visitor you respond to the smiles and nods and waves of the residents, but your real connection here is to the land and water and sky.

Places like these are a source of reassurance that our world is a good place. I want to be back there to celebrate the beginnings - the return of the birds and the butterflies. To watch the snow and ice depart, and the greenery come to life. And to again commemorate the endings, the last red bunch of the blueberry fields and the good night of the maple.

To this special best kept-secret we say "a la prochain" (until next time)!"..... Saltscapes
